Topographic Halftone Generator

Adjust the settings below to shape the artwork. Changes preview live, and you can drag the artwork to move its centre point.

Pattern
Shape

Draws exactly this many rings or bands, with nothing beyond the outermost line.

Lower values pull the pattern inwards, leaving a clear margin between the outermost line and the edge of the canvas.

0 gives horizontal bands. Move towards −10 or +10 to tilt them towards vertical.

Warp bends the lines into natural, contour-like shapes.

Halftone

Dot spacing sets how far apart the dots sit. Ink coverage sets how many dots are drawn overall: higher values fill in more of the pattern.

Position

Moves the point the pattern radiates from. 0 is the centre of the canvas, and ±10 sits beyond the edges. You can also drag the artwork directly.

Animation

Negative values reverse the direction of the pulse.

Dots

A transparent background is kept in PNG exports. TIFF and MP4 files don't support transparency, so they use the selected background colour instead.

Image

Images are exported at the canvas size selected above, multiplied by the scale below.

Video

Renders the animation frame by frame as an MP4 file. Works in current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari.
